MLK Planning Open House December 5

It’s not explicitly arts related, but this is important information about the City of Tacoma’s work on their planning efforts for Hilltop:

mlksubareaThe City of Tacoma is hosting an Open House on Wednesday December 5th at Evergreen State Tacoma Campus regarding the MLK Subarea Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).  The City and community have been working to prepare a Subarea Plan and EIS for the MLK District to encourage development and revitalization of this area over the next 20+ years.

The City will be issuing the first draft of the Subarea Plan and the Draft EIS for agency and public review and comment on December 3rd.  The purpose of the Open House is to provide an opportunity for community members to come and learn more about the draft plan and draft environmental documents and how they can provide input. The comments received on these draft documents will help determine what changes need to be made before preparing the Final Subarea Plan and Final EIS. The Final Subarea Plan is scheduled to be adopted by the City Council in June 2013.

The Open House will feature the Draft MLK Subarea Plan and Draft EIS as well as posters, projects, and video highlighting the results of various studies, surveys, and projects compiled over the last year by City staff, consultants, and University of Washington Tacoma interns in cooperation with several community, business and educational institutions.
